Top Linux Distributions - Featuring best in them

With the arrival of the Open source era and availability of the source codes freely available for modifications , a lot of Linux  distributions has be mushrooming around every month or so . We usually get confused for which dist should be downloaded which could fulfill the requirements.
Here i have tried to consolidate the major features of the some Linux distributions . Hope this is going to help .









MAJOR Linux Distributions are ..


1) UBUNTU




Ubuntu is actually is a southern African ethic or humanist philosophy  and Ubuntu has a very nice meaning 
Ubuntu: "I am what I am because of who we all are." 

Ubuntu is today the most popular Linux distributions  . Its community size is largest among all the other distributions with great support . Ubuntu is free, fast and very easy to use with very user friendly graphics user interfaces. Ubuntu comes with thousands of free apps provided by the contributors in the community from around the world .Ubuntu today powers millions of desktop and server machines around the world .
  



 Main features are of Ubuntu are:-
  • Very nice long term support from the large and reliable Ubuntu community 
  • Large  number of freely available applications.
  • With Wubi , an officially supported windows installer for windows , you can easily install and uninstall Ubuntu anytime just like any window program . This is very helpful for those who are new to Linux and don't want to  play with the partition system of the hard  disk .
  • Most of the hardware drivers come along with the operating system . 
  • Ubuntu has released 17 releases in last 8 years of operation without any major worries till date and so its very reliable .

2) Linux Mint - 


Linux mint is based on Debian and Ubuntu, plus it also provides 30,000 packages and one of the best software manager .In short it has all the goods from Ubuntu with many additions features. 

















 Main features of Linux Mint are :- 
  • Best multimedia support among all the other distributions . and extremely easy to use .
  • All the features of Ubuntu.
  • Excellent for the newbies to Linux. Extremely interactive  graphics .
  • With Wubi , an officially supported windows installer for windows , you can easily install and uninstall Linux mint anytime just like any window program .This is very helpful for those who are new to Linux and don't want to  play with the partition system of the hard  disk .This feature is inherited from Ubuntu.

3) OPENSUSE

Open SUSE is a free and Linux-based operating system for your PC. Open SUSE creates one of the world's best Linux distributions, working together in an open, transparent and friendly manner as part of the worldwide Free and Open Source Software community.









Features of OpenSUSE are:-
  • The OpenSUSE distribution are very stable , easy to use multipurpose distributions.
  • Windows supported installers like Wubi are not available for OpenSUSE . So you might have to play with the partition system     in your hard disk.
  • Long term and reliable support from the community.

4) PUPPY LINUX


Puppy Linux is just amazing. It has been specially developed to make computing fast and easy. It comes with some unbeatable features which makes it one of the unique one .








Features of Puppy Linux are :- 
  • Very reliable long term support from the puppy Linux community.
  • Just use a CD or USB flash to boot a PC. Puppy Linux can be downloaded  as ISO, an image that can be burned to CD or DVD.
  • Puppy is small, it can live in your PC's memory and be ready to quickly execute your commands, whereas in other systems, programs are first read from drive storage before being executed.
  • Even if your PC has no hard disk (ex, broken hard disk), you can still boot Puppy via CD or USB and continue working. Old PCs that no longer work with new systems will still work good-as-new with Puppy.
  • Puppy boots in less than a minute, even in old PCs, and it does not require antivirus software. Administering Puppy is quick and minimal. With Puppy, you just have to take care of your data, which you can easily save to USB flash (Then forget about your operating system!). Your data can be read by other computers.
  • Because Puppy is able to live in CD/DVD or USB flash, as well as save data to these same devices, you can carry your programs and data with you.
  • Puppy will easily install to USB, Zip, hard drive or other storage media.
